The university was founded 1804, November is the second oldest university in Ukraine. The name of the university comes from the name of V.N.Karazin who was a prominent educator. The university has completed 200+ year history and has still led in Ukraine as research and educational institute. The 1999, the university gained status of a national university and started to recognize as V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Ukraine. In 2003, the university gained the high status of a self governing state university as well.
