The university was founded 1804, November is the second oldest university in Ukraine. The name of the university comes from the name of V.N.Karazin who was a prominent educator. The university has completed 200+ year history and has still led in Ukraine as research and educational institute. The 1999, the university gained status of a national university and started to recognize as V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Ukraine. In 2003, the university gained the high status of a self governing state university as well. There are many streets in Ukraine named after many professors, researched and alumni of the university, which is very apparent from the huge contribution of the university in industrial, scientific and cultural center.

The university has also contributed in the medical segment by opening first four faculties of the university called department of medical science, correspondingly renamed into a school of medicine which has completed 115 years. The university follows one to one approach in medical studies to deliver quality education to each medical student, and to ensure so university has extensive faculty, including 22 doctors of science, full professors, 68 candidates of science, assistant professors and instructors. Total 1080 medical students, including 700 students from foreign countries itself exudes the reputation of the university.
